Dorothy H. Spice, age 91, of Berne, IN, passed away at 6:48 PM on Thursday, June 4, 2026 at her home. She was born on Friday, April 19, 1935, in Potosky, MI. She married Leonard “Gene” Spice on Saturday, May 2, 1959 in Fort Wayne, IN. Dorothy attended Geneva High School. She was a member of the New Beginning Faith Center in Decatur, IN. Dorothy was a homemaker and loved to vacation, go camping, watch birds, and above all cherished the times spent with her family.
She will be forever missed by her husband – Leonard “Gene” Spice, Berne, IN, daughters- Linda (Mike) Doherty, Geneva, IN, Sue (Eric) Scherrer, Geneva, IN, Peggy (Roger) Smitley, Bryant, IN, sons – Herb (Kathy) Bergman, Berne, IN, Don (Sara) Spice, New Corydon, IN, David (Jackie) Spice, Berne, IN, 25 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 35 great-great-grandchildren, and many wonderful nieces & nephews.
She was preceded in death by her father – Harlow Hart, mother – Pearl (Eash) Hart, brother – Sam Hart, sister – Becky Tarkington, two granddaughters, one grandson, and four great-grandchildren.
Family and friends may gather to share and remember at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home located at 100 N Washington Street Geneva on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM.
A service to celebrate her life will be at Downing & Glancy Funeral Home at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, June 9, 2026 with Pastor Bob Miller officiating. Interment will follow in the West Lawn Cemetery in Geneva.
Arrangements are being handled by Downing & Glancy Funeral Home in Geneva.
