The recent hit movie “Super Mario Bros.” brought out record crowds at ABCinema in Decatur as cinema owners Corey and Barb Affolder shared with WZBD this week.
The movie was released at the perfect time for the cinema in downtown Decatur, taking advantage of good weather, the end of the school year and a general good mood by local residents as summer approaches.
“All in all,” said Barb Affolder Wednesday, “we sold 3600 tickets over a five-week run.”
Affolder says that is the most in the history of the cinema.
“It’s the most watched movie ever for us.”
“We had multiple sold-out shows,” said Affolder of the success of the film.
Along with selling tickets to the general public, Affolder reported that the theatre hosted five different private parties and three school trips.
