Emmett Glenn kept the fall sports season alive at Bellmont High School for another week as he ran a career best to qualify for the State Finals in cross country in Terre Haute on October 31st.

The Bellmont Braves had a strong showing as a team with a 14th-place finish, exactly where they were seeded to finish. In a display of just how tough the course and the field were, Glenn was the only Brave to better his PR after last week’s sectional, where nearly the entire team set new marks.

Glenn cut .16 seconds from his time, running with the extreme confidence that a simple repeat of last week’s pace was going to be enough to qualify. The margins were extremely tight, though, and in the end, Glenn only qualified by eight seconds.

Carroll dominated the boys’ race with an incredible effort by their top five, who all finished in the top nine and under 16 minutes.

In the girls’ race, both Abigail and Erin Ramseyer qualified for the State Finals for Bluffton with excellent efforts. They’ll represent Z-Land next week at Terre Haute.

In another way to view Saturday’s race, there were 15 Adams County runners in the boys’ race and two more from Heritage. Only Glenn and Heritage’s Julius Garrido were able to set new career marks on the Manchester course.

It was much the same in the girls’ race with the field just as tough. Heritage’s Caelin Voglewede and Emily High (pictured below) both managed to cut six seconds from their career bests to finish their seasons on high notes.

The championship race for the girls will take place at noon at the Lavern Gibson championship course at Indiana State, with the boys to follow at 1 p.m.
