“It looks very nice out there,” Park Superintendent Cara Gerber recently told Decatur City Council as she noted that landscaping work has been completed and the gazebo has been updated at Riverside Center.
In addition, Gerber said, two new office spaces have been created at Riverside, including a “board room” which anyone from the community may use from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., with only a phone call needed to reserve it.
“This space can be used for meetings with organizations, contractions, lunches, etc.,” Gerber explained. “It’s a great place for businesses to use throughout the day if they don ‘t have the space for important meetings.”

In reference to the landscaping work, a Riverside Center post on Facebook said, “These plants will grow and by spring we expect this area to really come to life. We’re excited to watch it transform over the next few years.”
It was noted that the park-rec department is working “to take spaces that have been worn or simply lost their purpose and turn them into something beautiful again. Our goal is to create spaces that the community wants to spend time in, enjoy, and be proud of.”

The gazebo updating saw old, decaying boards replaced with new ones, a fresh coat of paint, and new lights added.
“The gazebo has become one of our favorite little spots at Riverside Center,” the department posted. “Whether you’re looking for a great picture spot, a place to sit and relax, or even a beautiful setting for a special occasion. In fact, we’ve even had couples get married here when they’ve rented space at Riverside Center.
