Parks department concession sales numbers were recently presented to Decatur City Council and the numbers came together in the black!
The department sold $84,584.81 worth of concessions at Riverside Center, the city pool, the REV Sports Complex, and Worthman field concession stands this year, Parks Superintendent Cara Gerber reported.
The numbers will continue to fluctuate as concessions were being sold at Saturday morning soccer games at Worthman Field, “then we will sell concessions at Riverside for different events such as skate parties,” Gerber noted.
Expenditures were as follows in the report: $49,186.80 on concession stock and equipment; $21,614.11 on employees; $5,020.40 on sales tax; and close to $6,500 on utilities at the REV concession stands.
In reference to the sales tax, Gerber said the department does not tax customers for the food it sells; the department picks up that tab.
In all, the department is left with a balance of $2,278.72 on the positive side of the ledger.
That does not include, however, the city pool, Riverside, or Worthman Field utilities or any supplies needed for cleaning the stands and bathrooms, Gerber pointed out.
“We are very happy to have brought in money to cover the cost of the concessions and employees.” Gerber said.
“This year, there were many new options offered at our concession stands. We sat down and looked at our account and how much of each item we sold.
“We look forward to having a better inventory system next year and some new items to introduce as well.”
NEW DAY: Decatur’s parks and recreation board meetings have been shifted to the third Monday of each month at Riverside Center.
Start time is 5:30 p.m.
The Adams County park board meets on the first Tuesday of each month at Riverside, starting at 5:30.
All meetings are open to the public.
