The undefeated Northrop Bruins lived up to the billing Thursday night, attacking the Bellmont Braves with physicality, fouls and plenty of gamesmanship in a 4-0 victory on FWCS turf on the north side of Fort Wayne.
The Bruins were whistled for 17 fouls and made the Braves earn every inch throughout the 40 minutes.
The two teams were deadlocked until the 20th minute, when Elley Tedeschi put the Bruins (now 8-0) in the lead.
Kailyn McCarel made it 2-0 with twelve minutes to go in the half and the Braves faced a big deficit in the halftime talk from coach Skaggs and coach Lee.
The game continued its physicality into the second half as the temperatures dropped and the rain stopped. Northrop was issued a yellow card for repeated fouls, but the physical style of play and kicking the ball away from the Braves after foul called led to frustration on behalf of the visitors.
The Braves committed a foul in the box on Violeta Fuentes and she converted the penalty at 70′ to make it 3-0 and the Bruins finished it off minutes later with a second from Tedeschi, who the Braves felt fouled Maya Schlemmer in the buildup.
The Braves will try to bounce back Saturday morning with a clash against rival Canterbury at the BHS soccer stadium. They’ll then travel to Ruoff Mortgage Stadium in Fort Wayne to take on Leo for a match that can be heard on WZBD, 92.7 FM.
