A group of Adams County residents appeared at the County Commissioners meeting Tuesday to voice their concerns over the use of flock cameras by local police agencies. The residents say the flock cameras can be abused and that infringes on their constitutional right to privacy. Police agencies say they only use the flock cameras to find criminals.
The residents say the Commissioners entered into a contract for flock camera services and did so without considering the consequences.
While listening to the dozen or so citizens in attendance, Commissioners President Steve Bailey said there was nothing on the agenda to deal with, so all the Commissioners could do was to let the citizens vent their concerns. Some were not happy that the Commissioners limited the time spent on the issue, saying they had a full agenda of issues to deal with.
Bailey said the issue is complicated and some abuses have been reported, but that local police appear to use the system only for investigative purposes…
Some of the residents who appeared at the meeting indicated that they will return in the future when they can officially get on the agenda for the Commissioners meeting, though they would like to move that meeting to the nighttime hours so that more people can attend.
