COLUMBIA CITY – With their incredibly difficult pre-season non-conference slate behind them, the Bellmont Braves finally found themselves in conference play Thursday on the road and they came home with an NE8 win, beating Columbia City 3-1.

The two teams were scoreless at the half and it wasn’t until the 57th minute that the Braves got on the scoreboard. Oni Krueckeberg scored her fourth goal of the season from a Kaitlyn Barton free kick (just like on Tuesday at Bishop Dwenger) for the lead.

At 61′ the two juniors teamed up again for a second consecutive brace for Oni.

Barton made it a hat trick of assists after Grace Ruble (see below) scored with seven to play.

Columbia City took a consolation prize, scoring a rare goal in NE8 play against Bellmont over the last three years with five minutes to play.

The victory gave Bellmont a 1-4-1 record as they prepare for their annual rivalry match against Norwell at home on Tuesday.
