New Heritage Jr./Sr. High School athletic director Josh Dommer announced this week that Steve Amstein will lead the boys’ track and field team for the 2026-27 season.
“Coach Amstein returns for his second stint leading the Patriots,” said Dommer, “and he brings more than 27 years of coaching experience to the program. In addition to coaching at Heritage, he also coaches with a club track team during the indoor season, helping athletes continue to develop year-round.”

Amstein’s son, Hayden, was an accomplished runner for the Patriots, graduating in 2025. He currently runs cross country at Indiana Tech.
Coach Amstein has been around the Heritage program for a long time. He’s been married to his wife, Meg, for 28 years. The couple’s daughter, McKinsey, will be a junior this coming school year.
“Coach Amstein is passionate about developing student-athletes both on and off the track, and we are excited to have him leading our boys track & field program once again.”
