**Editors Note…The following is a press release from the Indiana State Police…
A months-long counterfeiting investigation has resulted in criminal charges being filed Monday in Adams County against a former Adams County Deputy.
The investigation originated from a reported Homeowners Association violation involving forged and fraudulent documents submitted to the Decatur Building and Zoning Department. Once Adams County Sheriff Dan Mawhorr was notified of the incident, he notified the Indiana State Police and asked for a thorough investigation into the matter. During the course of the Indiana State Police investigation, evidence was collected indicating that official documentation had been falsified.
Upon completion of the investigation, all findings were forwarded to a Special Prosecutor for review to determine whether criminal charges were warranted.
Charges of counterfeiting were formally filed on Monday, and Daniel Girard (39) of Decatur has turned himself in to the Adams County Jail on those charges. Mr. Girard was a Deputy with the Adams County Sheriff’s Department at the time the incident occurred.
Any questions regarding this case can be directed to the Indiana State Police. Any questions reference discipline or the employment status of Mr. Girard should be directed to the Adams County Sheriff’s Department.
Mr. Girard was arrested for:
- Counterfeiting and Application Fraud: Level 6 Felony
*This arrest is based upon probable cause of a crime, all crimes mentioned are alleged and all suspects are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.
