Danielle Cummings will be competing for thousands of dollars in scholarships after having been judged the state winner of the Indiana VFW Auxiliary’s Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest.
Judging of Indiana entries in the contest was done last Friday at the Decatur VFW’s post.

Cummings’ entry was submitted by VFW Post 1954, North Liberty, Indiana.
A total of 16 entries were judged at the Decatur post by Decatur Mayor Dan Rickord, Adams Superior Court Judge Sam Conrad, and Tracy Manley, a member of the Decatur auxiliary.

Cummings’ work now goes to the VFW auxiliary’s national headquarters in Kansas City, Mo., where winners from each state will compete for the $37,000 in scholarships.
More than 4,000 students across the U.S. were expected to participate in the event which began in 1979.
High school students in grades 9 through 12 were eligible to take part in the contest.
