Decatur’s dog park, Paws & Play, will be undergoing a reseeding project in its third year.
Parks Superintendent Cara Gerber said one side of the dog park will be closed while the grass is reseeded.
“We do not have a timeline (how long the one side will be closed) as it will depend on rain and how long the grass takes to grow,” she said. “Once the grass is grown, we will open up that side and then close the other side to do the same thing.”
Only one side will be closed at a time, she emphasized.
A new addition to the dog park is planned: a drinking fountain.
“There is some work that needs done to get that out there so that may take a few months,” Gerber said. “It is something we are working on to make happen for dog park members.”

Paws & Play is located at 1145 Mercer Ave., south of the Decatur Church of God. The site at one time was where Evergreen (senior living) Court was located.
FEES: There is a yearly fee of $30 for a dog park membership.
To sign up for a membership, got to Riverside Center (8 a.m to 4 p.m., Monday-Friday) to fill out paperwork.
At that time, updated vaccination records are needed for each dog which will be brought to the park.
To get a card for entry to the dog park, dog owners need to fill out paperwork at Riverside Center (8-4 M-F) and bring updated vaccination records for any dog which will be using the park.
