Head coach Steve Lee’s Bellmont girls soccer program has lost one single match in a soccer sectional in the last 13 seasons. The team’s quest to continue their sectional streak will require a much different path this fall after the IHSAA re-aligned the local 2A fields and shifted the Braves into an eight-team field.
The shift puts the girls’ program in a similar situation to the boys’ field for the last several years.
2A Sectional #20 (Girls): Bellmont, Bishop Dwenger, Bishop Luers, Concordia Lutheran, Heritage, Leo, Norwell, Woodlan
The Braves beat Bishop Dwenger in a shootout in the regional semifinals last season before falling in the regional championship game in Mishawaka.
Boys’ Soccer
The Bellmont sectional for boys’ soccer is relatively unchanged. The only difference between the two fields is that the Bishop Dwenger boys’ team is up in 3A due to the success factor.
2A Sectional #20 (Boys): Bellmont, Bishop Luers, Concordia Lutheran, Heritage, Leo, Norwell, Woodlan
Bishop Luers knocked off Bellmont in the sectional opener, then won close, one-goal fixtures against Concordia Lutheran and Woodlan to win last year’s title.
