Decatur’s River Greenway Trail has been receiving a cleanup and a new look.
“Our guys have been working really, really hard at cleaning up all the trees,” Parks Superintendent Cara Gerber recently told city council following some extremely strong winds which were hard on trees in the city.
The cleanup delayed a project of putting markers on the trail.
Gerber said trail markers are being placed every 1/4 mile with the numbers 911 at the top so people know they can give the trail marker’s number to the dispatch center if they have to call for an emergency.

“We will give maps to all emergency personnel so they know where these posts are,” she explained.
The letters “SM” will be on the trail markers in the Stratton Addition area so emergency personnel aren’t confused by which number on the trail it is, Gerber added.
If the weather cooperates, she said, the project should be completed next week.
