Representative Matt Lehman filed for reelection this week to continue representing Indiana House District 79. Matt’s approach to public service is shaped by his life outside the Statehouse. A lifelong Hoosier, he and his wife, Joye, live in Berne, where he is a partner at Bixler Insurance Inc., an independent insurance agency. His experience as a small‑business owner informs his focus on policies that support families, employers, and local communities.
“Hoosiers expect their leaders to use common sense, protect their freedoms, and be good stewards of taxpayer dollars,” Lehman said. “Those are the values I was raised with, and they’re the values that guide every decision I make.”
Prior to serving in the Indiana House, Matt served as an Adams County Councilman. He and Joye have three adult daughters and 3 grandsons.
Matt Lehman has been a driving force behind legislation to strengthen rural Indiana, evident by his work with Indiana Grown, a program established to connect Hoosiers with local grown products, and his advocacy for Community Crossings, a matching grant program that ensures infrastructure funding for local roads and bridges. His work has included efforts to streamline regulations for small businesses, protect Indiana’s legal system from foreign influence, and expand access to affordable, transparent health care options. He has also championed public safety initiatives and consistently defended individual liberties and property rights.
Lehman filed for re‑election this week, saying he is motivated by both the progress Indiana has made and the work still ahead.
“Indiana is strong, but we can’t take that for granted,” Lehman said. “I’m running to continue delivering results and to ensure our state remains a place where families can thrive and businesses can grow.”
