Spring is likely to bring a new “fun thing” to downtown Decatur.
A three-piece apparatus will be added to the Cat Alley which runs east and west along the south side of Sherwin-Williams.

It’s known as Cat Alley due to the large cat sculpture which stands at the Second St. end of the alley.
The alley, which is 12 feet wide, has been closed to traffic for some time.

The apparatus was unveiled to city council at its final meeting of the year by Community Coordinator Jamie Gephart, a member of the Main Street volunteer organization.
“Basically, it’s a toy unit for kids,” Mayor Dan Rickord explained.
The apparatus is being purchased from Midstates Recreation at a cost of $9,985.10.

The bulk of the cost is being picked up by the city – authorized by the board of works and safety – using facade program money left over 2025.
When completed, the alley will also have six planters and two benches.
Some painting is planned – such as cat paw prints leading through the alley.
