FORT WAYNE – A convincing victory on the road for Bellmont ended the Braves’ poor run on the mats at Snider as three out of four Bellmont ninth graders won, sparking the team to a 52-23 triumph in Fort Wayne Tuesday night.
With 60 years of history between the two programs, the Braves were looking to avenge a pair of losses over the last three years to the Panthers. This year’s Bellmont seniors were trying to avoid becoming the first class to lose three dual meets against Snider in over 50 years and they showed up, claiming three wins for the team.
One of those three wins came from Sam Wolpert, who returned from injury and gutted out a 9-0 major decision at 157. Wolpert led just 2-0 going into the third, but found the clinching takedown and made it a major with a four-point nearfall late in the bout.
Captains Xavior Palacios and Grady Baker rounded out the wins for the Class of 2026 with pins in the second minute at 190 and 285, respectively.
Gabe Myers and Charlie Faurote got the Braves off on the right foot with big scoring efforts in the opening two bouts and Austin Manley followed up Wolpert’s win with a quick fall at 165, pushing the Bellmont lead to 21-0.
Freshmen Bradley Baker and Oliver Faurote followed up Charlie Faurote’s win with two more for the ninth graders on the team, with Baker using two takedowns to beat Dylan Miguel 7-3, while Oliver Faurote won 18-1.
Ben Mills and Henry Faurote wrapped up the victory with convincing wins.
The Braves dominated the JV matches, winning 45-12.
Bellmont will wrestle the following opponents at Goshen on Friday and Saturday: Goshen, Lakeland, Chesterton, East Chicago Central, Eastside, FW Wayne, LaPorte, SB Riley, Munster.
