The Christmas season is going to get considerably brighter and finer in downtown Decatur, thanks to the efforts of Decatur Main Street.
Jamie Gephart, the city’s community coordinator, told city council at its latest meeting that the Main St. group of volunteers – of which she is a member – has secured $20,000 worth of new downtown decorations.
The decorations were available from Artistic Holiday Designs of South Whitley – free of charge! The Main Streeters moved quickly to grab them!

The local group secured a 23-foot-tall ornamental Christmas tree and a 15-foot by 15-foot ornamental creation that people can sit in (see photos), Gephart explained.

Both will be set up on the Madison St. Plaza, along with the usual small house to receive letters to Santa.
The lighted ornaments should start going up on Nov. 18, she said, in order to be in place for the Nov. 21 annual Christmas tree lighting event.
