Decatur police are reminding people planning to protest at Saturday’s Pride festival downtown that they will be limited to a special area.
That area, on a portion of Madison St. from Second St. to the first alley west (red area on map) will be barricaded with no vehicles allowed.

That portion of Madison, along with the courthouse lawn “will be the predesignated area for any protesters wishing to exercise their First Amendment rights,” according to an announcement by Police Chief Kevin Gerber announced.
The area will be barricaded from 5 to 10 p.m., which is the time the Pride fest is being held on the Madison St. Plaza (outlined in yellow on map).
“We ask that you remain civil, respectable to one another, and follow all laws,” the police department said in a statement issued Wednesday. “The Decatur Police will be on scene to monitor the situation. If you believe you are witnessing criminal acts we ask you report it to law enforcement immediately.”
The festival will be held from 5 to 10 p.m., with no admission charged. Those planning to attend, however, are advised to bring ID as everyone will be checked.
Food vendors will be available, as will adult beverages. No food or drink will be allowed to be brought in.
The performance is set to start at 7.
