An expensive piece of equipment has worked out quite well for Meal N Motion, a Decatur company.
During a recent appearance before city council, owner Eric Sorg said the new equipment “is working well; it’s exciting for us.”

Sorg, along with Adams County Economic Development Director Colton Bickel, attended the council meeting as council looked over – and approved – the company’s CF-1 form.
Metal N Motion had received a property tax abatement from council last year. Under Indiana law, firms receiving tax abatements must make annual reports on progress made on fulfilling vows it made to the city in order to receive the abatement.
The new cutter “is working five to seven times faster” than the machine it replaced, Sorg told council.
“We’re already experiencing some new customers … and working faster” for the customers already has.
At the time he was seeking the abatement, Sorg said the new piece of equipment would represent an investment of $478,278.
Metal N Motion is located at 827 S. 11th St. (north of the Red Barn veterinary clinic).
The company has been in Monroeville for 12 years and is currently in its fourth year in Decatur.
Tax abatements are given on a sliding scale. For example, a five-year abatement provides a 100% tax reduction in the first year, 80% the next year, then trims of 60%, 40% and 20% the ensuing three years.
