Macie Saalfrank of Norwell High School competed in Saturday’s individual tennis regional at North Central and advanced to the championship match before falling in the finals.
Playing directly next to the doubles pair from Adams Central, Saalfrank got the better of Lafayette Jeff’s Sydney North, using her speed, height and a stronger forehand to win her semifinal match, 6-3, 6-0.
That pitted Saalfrank against Emma Danihelova of Lakeland for a regional title. When play began Saturday afternoon, Saalfrank was one of just eleven singles players left in the state tournament.
Danihelova advanced to next week’s State Finals with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Saalfrank.
