Two Adams County golfers advanced to next week’s IHSAA regional with outstanding individual performances at Friday’s sectional at Timber Ridge in Bluffton.
Three players from Grant County fought over the medalist prize, with Landon Tropf of Eastbrook winning the tiebreaker for the individual honor with a 74. Tropf and teammate Aaron Fulda, who was third with a 75, gave the Panthers an easy 16-stroke victory in the team race.
Trent Nelson of Oak Hill lost the tiebreaker to Tropf, but advanced on his own as the Eagles were fifth behind Bellmont and Norwell.
That left two individual spots up for grabs after the Bluffton and Norwell players were removed from the list as advancing with the team. Both London Warner (South Adams) and Drew Johnson (Adams Central) finished on 83 to make the cut and survive for another week. It also brought a bitter end to the season for Bellmont’s lone senior, Owen Minnick, who finished on the outside looking in as an individual by a stroke with an 84 and as a team by the tiebreaker.
Remarkably, it was the third time this year that Norwell had tied Bellmont and beat the Braves on the tiebreaker. The Knights beat out the Braves in both the NE8 tournament and in the Bi-County tournament.
The regional will be held at the Players Club in Muncie on Thursday.
