It may have ended up being a ten-run game finished in just five innings, but that didn’t mean that Adams Central didn’t make a game of their sectional matchup with South Adams Monday, clubbing a couple of home runs off Addie Baker before bowing out of the state tournament in a 15-5 loss.
With virtually no one giving the Jets to be competitive with South Adams, Adams Central made a big statement with home runs on consecutive pitches by Melina Peralez and Izzy Isch in the top of the first inning (see below).

South Adams put things right with a barrage of hits in the bottom of the second inning, scoring eight times, but Adams Central answered with two more runs in the top of the third to cut the Starfire lead to 9-5. Peralez and Isch got that rally started for the Jets with a walk and a double, respectively.
It was, however, the last of the Adams Central offense, as they produced just two more baserunners the rest of the night while South Adams continued to hit.

Addie Baker ended the game with five hits allowed and five strikeouts. She walked four and four of her five runs were earned.

Myla Ellenberger pitched 1.1 innings for AC and was relieved by Addy Jordon, who gave up ten runs.

Adams Central issued seven walks, hit three batters and committed three errors, dooming their hopes of pulling off the big upset.

The Starfires will now face Whitko in the semifinal at 5:30 p.m. for a spot in the finals.
Adams Central’s season ends with the Jets’ 4-19 record.
