Playing just hours before the rains came to the area Monday evening, washing out scheduled matches and closing courses around northeast Indiana, the Bellmont Braves lost a tough NE8 match to the DeKalb Barons at Bridgewater.
DeKalb shot 158 at their home course, led by a 37 from their ace, AJ Shambaugh. He was matched by Bellmont’s No. 1, Owen Minnick, with his own 37. Minnick fell behind his opponent with bogeys on the fourth and fifth holes, but got even with a par on No. 7 as Shambaugh struggled with a double bogey. Both players had a fine birdie on the third hole.
Carson Manley used a birdie on No. 6 to finish with a second-best 45 for the Braves. The rest of the team was over bogey on the night.

BRAVES TENTH AT RECENT LEO INVITE
The Braves competed Saturday morning at the Leo Invitational at Noble Hawk – a 16-team tournament featuring multiple teams from Leo and Homestead.
The team competed stroke for stroke with every other team on the front nine, except for Homestead, who shot par as a team. Bellmont’s 160 on the front was within five strokes of everyone but the Spartans, but things went terribly on the back nine and the Braves dropped all the way to tenth place with a 190.
Gavin Haiflich of Blackhawk Christian was the medalist with a 70. Bellmont’s Owen Minnick was tied for fourth at 73.
