Information was released Wednesday by the office of Adams County prosecutor Jeremy Brown regarding felony drug charges against Anthony “Tony” Currie of Decatur this week.

Currie, who was formerly employed by Adams Memorial Hospital as a pharmacist and Adams Central as the head wrestling coach, faces four different counts:
- One count of attempting to obtain a controlled substance by fraud, a Level 6 Felony
- Three counts of theft, all Level 6 felonies
According to the information released by the prosecutor, the Indiana State Police were contacted by officials at Adams Memorial Hospital. Hospital officials notified the police that Currie had been stealing narcotics from the pharmacy of the hospital.
Hospital officials confronted Currie about a potential health problem and after he failed a drug test, an audit was performed by Adams Memorial to determine the extent of the problem. The investigation yielded a report and falsified prescriptions were also discovered, showing that, though Currie claimed to have a prescription for the opioids from a local nurse practitioner, the prescriptions had been falsified.
Additional investigations showed that Currie would divert drugs from the pharmaceutical companies and change the value of the number of pills on the hospital’s inventory sheets when the drugs were received. Hospital officials noted that earlier in his career, Currie would perform this audit in an open place, but recently he had been doing it in his office out of sight of others.
When an initial audit showed that Currie had already diverted 400 pills of Oxycodone and 900 pills of Percocet in 2025 alone, a wider audit was ordered, going back to 2023.
This audit then brought the United States Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) into the investigation. County police, hospital officials, the Indiana State Police and the DEA then worked together to discover the extent of Currie’s crimes.
The eventual numbers of the audit were staggering, showing that Currie had diverted and stolen over 32,000 pills with a value of over $22,000 dollars in the last three calendar years.
Charges against Currie were filed on May 13th and he was arrested on May 14th by the Adams County Sheriff’s Office.
