Tied 2-2 in their game with Cowan Wednesday night, the South Adams Starfires got a leadoff walk in the bottom of the seventh from Manny Juarez and he used his speed to get into scoring position and score he did – coming home on a two-out outfield error to win the ballgame for the Stars.
Both the Blackhawks and the Starfires had just four hits apiece, with Kade Sprunger going the distance for the win for South Adams. He struck out two and did not walk a batter.
It was the 8-9-1 hitters who did the damage for the Stars at the plate, with Brendon Sprunger singling and scoring from the No. 8 spot, Kyle Minger picking up two hits and scoring from the No. 9 spot and leadoff hitter Sty Pyle having the only other hit for South Adams.
Gentry Groves took the loss for Cowan. He came into the game in the seventh.
For South Adams, it’s just the third win of the year for the Starfires and a welcome one with tough matchups against Adams Central and Whitko on the road over the next three days.
