DECATUR – The Bellmont Braves completed a sweep of county opponents Monday with a 4-1 win over Adams Central in Decatur.
“The games were close almost everywhere,” said BHS head coach Kyle Arnold. “There’s nothing guaranteed, though, if we meet them again in sectional. It feels nice being top dog in the county.”

The match at No. 1 doubles went all the way to the third-set tiebreak, but the Jets avoided the shutout with a 7-3 win by Macy McClure and Alexa Brotherton.

Emma Fuelling overcame a loss in the second set to win at No. 2 singles in three sets, while Leila and Lillian Jin took care of their opponents without issue.

“(Emma) played great,” noted Arnold. “It’s good to get those three-set wins now before conference and sectional matches kick up and you’ve got to be ready to play those long ones.”
The conference matches for the Braves begin Tuesday night (weather pending) at Columbia City.
Adams Central will play another county opponent when they go to South Adams Thursday.
