The annual Heritage Relays went on despite the wet and rainy conditions Friday and New Haven dominated the meet, with John Bussard taking both throwing events in a showdown with Heritage’s Charlie Riddle. The Bulldogs won by 20 points over East Noble.

The meet contained a couple of non-traditional event, including a medley relay for the sprinters and another for the distance runners, while the 200, 400, 800 and 300 hurdles were not contested.
The weather certainly affected times for the sprinters and for many of the field events, with most athletes nowhere near their best times, distances or heights of the season.

New Haven and Leo dominated the first-place ribbon count, but the Bellmont Braves did have a big win in the 4×800 relay. DeKalb captured two relays.
Notes & Times:
-Trevor Schwartz (AC) took his best 1600 time from last year (5:03) and smashed it, going 4:54.04 to take sixth. He finished just ahead of teammate Ethan Crockett, who was just a second slower than his season best.

-Bellmont’s 4×100 relay team clocked a season best with Will Kintz, Colin Ripley, Mason White and Jackson Hicks teaming up.
-Heritage took seventh in the 4×400 relay with their best time of the season. Running were Geremew Gerber, Zane Van OsDale, Marshall Harris and Preston Moore.
-Bellmont also had a good time in the 4×400 – their best of the season. Nehemiah Richmond, Landon Sielschott, Maddux Miller and Will Kintz finished in 3:47.88.

-The Braves’ victory in the 4×800 was impressive not just in the margin of victory (26 seconds) but also because the team had not gone as low as 8:39 in years. Running for Bellmont were Harry Gunsett, Gavin Braun, Maddux Miller and Nehemiah Richmond. That same team had the Braves’ best time this season, but they were 15 seconds faster Friday night than they were at the NE8 indoor meet in March.

-Dominic Ferguson (Heritage) was sixth in the pole vault, clearing 9-06 for the first time in his career.
-Jackson Hicks (Bellmont) added more than a foot to his season best in the long jump and finished an impressive third place with his distance of 19-05.25. Bellmont has not had a long jumper exceed 19 feet in several years.

-Zayne Roop (below) was one of few throwers to exceed their season bests in the shot put. He finished tenth for the Braves with a new PR of 41 feet.

-Ryder Hamm (AC) set a new season best in the shot to take 14th.
-Alex Schirack set a new PR in the discus for ninth place for Bellmont with a throw of 122-01.
