Bellmont played in front of a big crowd on the beautiful diamond at Homestead and held their own against the biggest school around, but a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and four more in the fifth gave the Spartans an 8-1 victory and handed the Braves their third loss in a row.

The Braves stranded runners in the first two innings, but finally got on the board in the third, tying the game at 1-1 when Mason Martinez scored after leading off the inning with a hit.
That handed starter Aiden Zimmerman a fresh start and he sat down the home team in order in the third, recording two of his three strikeouts.

Homestead resorted to small ball in the fourth to break the game back in their favor, pushing runs across with a sacrifice fly and a sacrifice bunt to challenge the BHS defense.

Bellmont could not find a way to score Martinez, who picked up another hit in his next at-bat, in response and the Spartans put the game away in the bottom of the fifth. A pair of walks and a hit batsmen prompted a move to the bullpen, but Matt Bleeke struggled to find the strike zone and Homestead exited the inning and headed to the sixth with a 7-1 lead.

Along with Martinez’s two hits, the Braves also had singles from Will Baker and Beau Baker in the contest.

The Braves’ next game will be at home Monday against Blackhawk Christian.
