The South Adams Starfires had hit their way to a good position to pick up their first victory of the season, leading 9-6 after Sty Pyle walked, stole a base, and went second to home on a base hit in the top of the sixth inning.
Then it all unraveled and Canterbury ended up claiming a 13-9 victory, scoring seven runs in the bottom of the sixth and holding on in the seventh for a win in Fort Wayne Tuesday.
Pyle moved up to the leadoff spot and went 1-for-4, scoring twice.
Derek McKean and Kyle Minger each had two hits for the Starfires, who finished with seven hits, all singles, against the Cavaliers.
Derek Weaver struck out eight for the Starfires as the starter, but did not make it out of the fourth, issuing five walks. He came out of the game once he reached 100 pitches and was replaced by Derek McKean, who was charged with the loss.
The Starfires are at home Wednesday against Randolph Southern. Fans can hear that game on WZBD, 92.7 FM, with the first pitch set for 5 p.m.
