The Bellmont Braves had few answers for the Marion Giants in the opening half Tuesday night as the long-time hardwood rivals met in the BHS gym to kick off the 3A sectional on opening night, with the visitors advancing to Friday’s semifinals with a 75-56 victory.
Marion jumped out to a 21-7 lead in the opening quarter and never looked back, lengthening their lead all the way to 50-19 at the halftime whistle.
The Giants showed that they will be a formidable opponent in this year’s tournament – and next year’s as well – as juniors Tim Jones and Logan Barnes dominated play.

Barnes led the team with his 17 points in the first three quarters, while Jones was just behind him with 16.
Kobe Johnson scored nine of his eleven points in the first quarter to help the Giants run right past the Braves.
The Braves managed just three buckets in the opening eight minutes and compounded their problems by making just one of four attempts from the line as the visitors pulled away.
Krull’s final bucket as a Brave was fittingly a three.

Will Baker had ten points, knocking down five shots in his final game in front of the home crowd.
Senior Daniel Vogel was one of three players, along with Beau Baker and Cam Summers, with four points for Bellmont.
Norwell holds on to late lead to reach semis
The Norwell Knights didn’t go very deep into their bench Tuesday, but they did enough to see off Mississinewa in the opening game at the Teepee.
Three McBrides combined for 43 of the Knights’ 51 points as they held on to beat the Indians. Josh McBride led all scorers with 19 points.
