Female swimmers from all the local high school teams competed in the waters at Jay County Thursday, vying for eight spots in the “A” Final Saturday, with ninth through sixteenth-place finishers in line for a swim in the B Final, as well.
South Adams showed the most individual success among local teams, while Delta dominated the event by winning all but one of the events.
Times & Notes:
-Adams Central reached the A Final in the medley relay with Danica Michaels, Ella Bluhm, Baylee Smith and Addison Gilbert lowering their season best, set previously at the ACAC in the same pool, by four seconds to edge out South Adams for seventh place.
-A season best for the Bellmont medley relay team of Shaylin McCray, Morgan Brames, Madison Witte and Izabella Werling was not enough to make the A Final, as they finished two second behind South Adams for the last spot.
-Ava Kinsey was third in the 200 Free with a time somewhat slower than her season best back from the ACAC meet. The South Adams senior will have an outside shot at a state berth if she can catch up to Alivia Jackson of Delta.
-Bellmont’s Ella Hockemeyer came within .32 seconds of her career best from way back in her freshman season in the 200 Free, cutting her current season best by several seconds, but it was just short of the Top 8. She’ll have a chance to win the B Final Saturday.
-Bellmont’s Morgan Brames swam a season best in the 50.
-Kaylynn Grush of South Adams swam a season best in the 100 Fly.
-Baylee Smith (AC) made the A Final with a season-best time.
-Ella Hockemeyer set a career best to steal the last spot in the final of the 100 Free from senior classmate Madison Witte by .01 seconds. Witte’s time was the best of her season.
-Shaylin McCray broke the six-minute mark for the first time in her career and reached the A Final with a sixth-place finish.
-McCray also reached the A Final in the backstroke, finishing seventh with a 1:10.71 – her season best.
-Ella Bluhm of Adams Central finished in the middle of the pack for the B Final with a season-best time of 1:24.71.
-Bellmont senior Morgan Brames grabbed the last spot in the B Final of the breaststroke with a season-best time.
-The Braves ended the day with a great time in the 400 Free Relay, taking sixth and nearly catching a cruising South Adams team. Tori McCullough, Shaylin McCray, Ella Hockemeyer and Madison Witte cut 3.5 seconds from their time in the NE8 to clock a new season best.
