Adams Central’s murderers’ row of Dylan Ogg, Brason Schortgen and Mav Dubach all claimed individual titles and the Adams Central Jets sent 11 of their 13 wrestlers to next week’s Jay County regional, finishing second for the second straight year to the Bellmont Braves in the team score.
While the Jets harbored hopes of catching up to the Braves heading into the final round, losses by two #1-seeded wrestlers for Adams Central ultimately left them with no route of winning the trophy.

More than anything, though, the team’s title hopes really were hampered by the fact that they simply had one less wrestler scoring than the Braves because of the forfeit at 144. For comparison’s sake, the Braves were upset just once and pulled off four wins over higher seeds. The Jets did nearly the reverse, falling four times to lower seeds and winning just two scalps on the day.

A sixth consecutive year of finishing behind Bellmont in the standings did not detract, however, from the outstanding performances by the three studs in the middle. Their success means the Jets will be a major player in the team races next week at regional and again at semi-state.

Dylan Ogg found the going much rougher against Henry Faurote the second time around, but he was still able to hold on to a 5-3 victory at 138, scoring his 40th victory of the season. Ogg’s transformation from 29-11 freshman regional qualifier to 40-1 sectional champion has been awfully impressive. A third meeting between Faurote and Ogg will be something county fans will eagerly anticipate Saturday.

Brason Schortgen’s win over Sam Wolpert was easily the most talked-about match at the end of the tournament. Aside from being a great display of high school wrestling, it also showed how dangerous Schortgen can be – whether he is behind or ahead. His takedown in the third period won him his second sectional title, 6-5.

Any questions that were being raised about who the favorite should be at 157 were immediately answered when Maverick Dubach first went on the attack against Norwell senior Cody Cox. Dubach blew through Cox and drew his team to within 228.5 to 226 on the team board.
The Jets, however, lost four of the next and final five matches and never got closer.

The top four finishers in each weight class advanced to this Saturday’s Jay County Regional – which can be heard live on 92.7 FM and our YouTube channel.
