A big performance by the Heritage Patriots at home highlighted a busy night of local high school basketball as teams got their final games in before Christmas, playing conference games that will set the mood for each team over the coming week.
Adams Central won 64-48 over Woodlan at home for a key ACAC victory, moving the Jets to 2-0 in the conference. They will take a week off before playing at Norwell in a game on 92.7 FM.
Heritage knocked off South Adams at home, kicking off the team’s ACAC slate with a 66-29 blowout win.
The Patriots will play Saturday night at Northrop before taking a full two weeks off for the holidays.
Meanwhile, in Decatur, the Braves were competitive all night with New Haven, but the team moved to 0-6 and 0-1 in the NE8 with a 60-56 loss despite an incredible night from Gavin Krull, who had 31 points.

Bellmont stuck with the visiting Bulldogs Friday night, chasing them into the locker room down just 29-28 with a solid performance from freshman Daniel Selking, who had half of the team’s points in the opening 16 minutes.
The third quarter, however, was dominated by Jamal Lawrence. The senior forward scored eight points and outscored the Braves entirely as New Haven upped their lead to 46-34 going into the final stanza.
That’s when senior Gavin Krull took over, putting on one of the biggest scoring displays in recent memory for the Braves. He poured in bucket after bucket and nearly brought the team all the way back to even. Krull scored 20 of the team’s 22 fourth-quarter points and ended the night with 31 to lead all scorers, but it was not enough as New Haven had just enough to hold on and move to 3-3.
The Bulldogs now hold wins over Woodlan, Homestead and Bellmont this season.
The Braves will return to action in their annual holiday tournament at Delta, where they will open with Indianapolis Scecina.
