Tuesday’s opening wrestling meet between South Adams and Cowan pitted two of the top teams in 1A last year and two of the top ten teams in this year’s 1A Team Poll by IndianaMat.
With three bouts to go, the dual meet lived up to the hype and the Stars led 30-29.
Then the middle of the Starfire lineup took over and took home the victory with three straight falls, giving head coach Sawyer Miller his first career win as head coach, 48-29.
Max Adams and Dakota Sprunger scored key wins as South Adams built a lead after accepting a couple of forfeits.
Cowan fired back, however, with consecutive wins at 132, 138 and 144, making it a one-point match.
Quick pins by Wyatt Mann, Isaiah Meyer and Nathan Plattner showed why the Starfires already have a spot in this year’s 1A State Finals in January.
The Stars are right back in action Thursday night against Delta in the StarDome. That match can be heard live on WZBD’s YouTube channel.
