The City of Decatur is gearing up for the 2025 version of its annual facade improvement program.
Two informational meetings are coming this week and anyone hoping to secure a facade grant must attend one of them. The meetings are on the same day, Thursday, Dec. 5, at 9 a.m. and 5 p.m., at the downtown HIVE art gallery, 118 N. Second St.
The program provides matching funds for facade improvements at local businesses.

For the first 10 years, the program was available only to businesses in the downtown area. This year, it was expanded to all businesses which operate primarily within the city limits of Decatur.
To qualify, however, a business must be a member of Decatur Main Street and/or Chamber of Commerce, contribute to the city’s economy, be independently owned and operated, employ under 50 people, and not be dominant in its field on a national basis.
A business may seek a grant of up to $10,000 and the city will match the requested amount. The city has $50,000 budgeted for the program in 2024. Lesser amounts may be sought.
