Four teams were locked in a battle for just three State Finals spots in an ultra-competitive local golf regional Friday which remained dry in Noble County despite the driving rain to the south that plagued the area, especially as the evening barreled toward football kickoffs.
Northridge edged DeKalb by a single stroke for the regional trophy and it went to the fifth score to settle who would advance between long-time rivals Homestead and Carroll. The Spartans’ Kamryn Nevins’ score of 90 was enough to give Homestead the edge.
The Chargers were buoyed by the low score of medalist Taylor Larkins, who shot +1 and was tied after 18 holes with NorthWood’s Sophie Richmond.

Abbie Peterson escaped as the final individual. The Warsaw player shot 77.
East Noble’s Lilly Oburn was the tough-luck loser. Her score of 78 would have been good enough to advance had Carroll won the tiebreak over Homestead.

Locally, South Adams shot 435, just behind Southern Wells (433) and Bluffton (416). Norwell finished 10th with a 385.
South Adams Scores: Julia Arnold 100, Brooklyn Green 112, Megan Yoder 111, Kendall Minger 136, Nora Ringger 112

“It wasn’t a fun day to play golf,” noted SA coach Chris Toledo. “The wind was as fierce as the competition. Noble Hawk was a fantastic host but a tough place for new golfers. Placement of the ball was key to a good score.”
Toledo noted the collective pride of local coaches as four of the seven schools in the ACAC competed Friday.
Bellmont’s Ella Hockemeyer shot 44 on the front nine, but struggled midway through the back nine and finished with a respectable 95.

Adams Central freshman Londyn Smith went 52-49 to finish her season at Noble Hawk.

Smith was the very first player off the first tee in the morning.
“Londyn finished her freshman season well,” pointed out coach Nick Smith. “Medalist in her final five meets of the regular season and ACAC medalist is a great way to finish out the season.”
