Bellmont and Jay County split their varsity matches Thursday, with the visitors winning both games – the Bellmont girls at JC and the Patriots in Decatur.

Bellmont took an early lead on a goal by Jack Johnson (sequence shown above), with the assist going to Evan Sovine. Jay County equalized later in the first half, then stole the victory away in the closing minutes of the second half for a 2-1 win.
Parker Frietas kept a clean sheet in the first half and made four saves. Xavior Palacios played goal in the second half and recorded six saves.
The Braves won the JV contest, 1-0, on a goal by Matt Bleeke, with the assist going to Colin Ripley.
Grayson Riehm kept a clean sheet for the Braves in the match.

GIRLS’ SOCCER
Norwell won 6-1 Thursday at South Adams, with four goals going to Grace Mann.
The Knights also had goals by Karrigan Melcher and Aubrey Meyer.

At Jay County, the Bellmont clean-sheet streak continued as the Braves downed the Patriots, 5-0.

Gwen Laurent had a hand in four of the five scores, knocking in another free-kick goal and converting a penalty from the spot.
Laurent also provided the assist for a goal by Oni Krueckeberg and she was on the other end of a through ball to Maggie Wilson.

Along with the goal by the ninth-grader Krueckeberg, the Braves had an all-freshman goal when Grace Ruble scored on a pass from Kaitlyn Barton.
The Braves return to NE8 play next week when they travel to New Haven Monday and then host East Noble Wednesday.
