The Five Points intersection in Decatur was closed to traffic this morning.
The area is expected to be shut down for approximately three weeks for utility replacement and relocation.
Among the upcoming work will be preparations for demolishing the convenience store/gas station on the site.
The current work is leading up to next year’s conversion of the intersection into a roundabout.
The marked detour is follows:
Mercer Ave. to Rugg St., then to First St.
Mercer Ave. to Grant St. to Line St. to Adams St. to Seventh St. to Monroe Street.
City officials have been told that the utility relocation will be completed prior to the city’s annual Callithumpian Parade the last Monday in October.
