An overnight derailment of a railroad car in Decatur has brought about a lengthy cleanup effort.
The train, carrying soybean dust from the Bunge North America plant in Decatur, overturned a few yards north of the Monroe St. intersection, which remained open to traffic this morning.
A derailment last year occurred at the same intersection.
This time, though, the derailed car was loaded with bean dust, requiring a lengthy effort to clean up the area and empty the car.

A Guzzler industrial vacuum truck was called in to remove the grain dust..
One of several workers at the scene said he had traveled from his home in Kentucky and the cleanup effort began around 9 a.m.
Asked if he had any idea how long the cleanup might last, he chuckled, “Oh, I’ll be here all night.”
