Still celebrating the football team’s big victory in the home opener from Friday night, head coach Matt Smith and his team ran on the grounds of the old Elmhurst High School Saturday morning and came away with a team title in the South Side Invitational, edging out Garrett by just three points for the trophy.
Gabe Hanford finished in fifth place for Heritage, beating a trio of Garrett runners behind him at the line to secure the victory.
The top finisher for the Patriots was Corban Roth in third place. He went 30 seconds faster than last week to set the pace for the team.
Hanford, along with Cooper Naatz, cut nearly 90 seconds from their performances at last week’s meet. Naatz was the all-important fifth scorer for the team on their championship day.

The Patriots will go head-to-head with many local teams at the Bellmont Invite Wednesday.

Smith, Medina finish in Top 10
While the Heritage girls do not have a full squad to score in team competitions, the top individuals continue to have a strong start to the season.

The pair of Ava Smith and Rosalinda Medina finished in 8th and 9th place in the girls’ race, respectively.

Smith cut 105 seconds from her time last week, while Medina jumped ahead of Elise Hissong in finishing order with a big season best.

The Patriots also had a fourth runner this week, with Jolena Beckman coming in with a respectable time under 29 minutes.
