The largest turnout of vehicles for the Motor Sports Festival in years, the music of the Bulldogs, and ideal weather brought hundreds of people to downtown Decatur Thursday night.
A total of 157 vehicles were situated on three streets for the 23rd annual Chamber of Commerce-sponsored car show. Chamber Assistant Executive Director Linda Morris said that marked the highest turnout in recent memory.
Second St., from Monroe to Jefferson streets, was full, as was Madison St., from Second to Third. And more vehicles were parked on Court St.

The classics and sort-of-classics began arriving as early as 4 p.m., and people were still wandering the streets for a look as late as 8:15.
By 7 p.m., the Bulldogs were rockin’ before a Madison St. Plaza filled with fans – many of whom spent much of the two hours of music dancing in front of the stage.
The four guys – Wayne Neukom, bass guitar and lead vocals; Bernie Stone, drums; Bob Zmyslony, keyboards and vocals; and Kenny Taylor, guitar and lead vocals – cranked out wildly diverse music from the ’50s and ’60s.
It ranged from Elvis to Glen Campbell, from Otis Redding to the Ventures, from Buddy Hollly to Booker T. & the M.G.’s, to a windup “Born to be Wild” by Steppenwolf.
Also included were a couple of Chubby Checker twist tunes which had the dancers letting it go.
SHOW WINNERS: Brad Tinkham’s 1957 Chevy 210 captured the Mayor’s Choice award, while the Committee’s Choice went to Doyt Miller and his 1968 Chevy Convertible.

Other awards announced by the Chamber:
Best Bike, Jeff Daniels, K21000 Kawasaki; Best Paint, Tom Yost, 1966 Chevy Nova; Best Interior, Jeff and Kim McDonald, Chevy Camaro.
Best Club Participation: PM Cruisers.
