Mayor Dan Rickord and other city officials have taken an “up close and personal” look at a situation involving a proposed new addition to the Lake Shores housing development on the east end of Decatur.
To move ahead with the expansion, Brett Miller recently told council, a ditch, needs to be cleaned and moved … partly onto city property.
Miller, owner-operator of Miller Land Surveying, was representing the Drier family which owns and has developed Lake Shores.
When Miller made the proposal at the June 18 meeting of council, he said the Driers were hoping the city would turn over to them the small piece of land.
Mayor Rickord, however, said one of his concerns was how many trees would be lost. And, he added, “I certainly don’t want to hinder development, but I don’t want to set a precedent by giving land away, either.”
So it was decided before the matter comes up again at a council meeting, Rickord and others would visit the site to better understand the issue.
The situation may come up at the July 19 council meeting.
The expansion planned amounts to 20 new homes.
