Monroe will be expanding its police force to add two new part time officers, per a unanimously-approved request made by Monroe Marshal A.J. Bertsch at the June town council meeting.
The newly-hired deputy marshals, Derek Loshe and Nathan Hunter, are both full time officers of Deactur’s police department, and have agreed to work part-time to help Marshal Bertsch with matters around town.
This now brings the total number of officers for Monroe to three paid officers–Bertsch and the new deputies–as well as two reserve officers, if need be for events and emergency circumstances. The deputy marshals are set to start sometime mid-June.
Monroe resident Bill Bliss, who was in attendance at the meeting, was glad to hear of the addition of marshal deputies to the town, stating, “I ain’t seen a cop for two years in this town,” noting the lack of patrols in recent years.
