At the June Monroe town council meeting, among other discussions, was a proposal regarding the silo on the corner of N. Polk and Washington Streets.
Josh Fiechter, a farmer and Wells County resident who is the majority owner of the property, approached the town council with his plans to repair and repaint the approximately 95-foot silo, asking them if he required any approval to do so. The plan is to apply a sealer to the concrete structure–as Fiechter noted cracks in the structure have resulted in some grain going bad–and then to follow that up with a fresh coat of white paint.
Monroe’s town council had no issues with the updates and repairs, but had additional questions regarding the method of painting Fiechter would use, with their concern being that if he were to spray the paint on, nearby cars may receive a new, unwelcomed coat of paint. Fiechter reassured the council that he would be rolling on the paint to limit any potential accidents, and that proper precautions will be taken to limit any paint going where it shouldn’t. He added that work would be conducted anywhere between June and September in order to apply both the proper coats of sealer and paint.
The town council stated that Fiechter did not need any prior approval from them to do the repairs, that they were thankful for being given the proper notice, and provided their unofficial blessing for the project.
Fiechter also mentioned plans to use the silo as a blank canvas to paint-on advertisements, stating the potential for using it as a method of highlighting some local businesses, although added that those plans don’t have a set timeline as of the meeting.
