An idea brought before Decatur City Council by a new member of that body is now beginning to move forward.
Jenny Bowers-Shultz, who joined council the first of the year, said at a meeting in March that having a city flag and seal “…is just an idea I’ve been thinking about. It would be good way to market our city.”
At council’s recent meeting, the idea was launched, with the first step being the formation of a committee to collect ideas, etc.

“I really want to move this forward, so I am asking to form a committee,” Bowers-Shultz said. “I feel the need to represent our community.”
Mayor Dan Rickord agreed that the first step would the formation of a committee and “getting the ideas of people on what they would want to include.”
Bowers-Shultz added that perhaps the proposal could reach the point of having some type of community voting on a flag and seal.
Bowers-Shultz said she would like to have another council member on the committee and councilman Scott Murray volunteered.
Council gave its approval and the search for a flag and seal to represent Decatur is now formally launched.
