The Adams County Community Foundation recently awarded a grant to Alive & Well, Inc. for classes at Adams County public schools. The Alive and Well classes provides impactful lessons to Adams Central, Bellmont, and South Adams students (grades six and up) in age-appropriate discussions and interactive games, videos, and demonstrations.
This is done while encouraging teens to think positively about themselves and build healthy relationships while treating others with respect and resisting negative peer and media pressures. Other topics include character development, good communication skills, and using discernment in entertainment.
In addition to the in-school courses, Alive & Well also offers e-learning lessons that are available on their website and the organization has a Facebook parent page. The website reinforces topics taught within the classrooms and provides students and contains the pre and post surveys as well as other important information for students, parents, and educators concerning teen-related issues. The Alive & Well Website is:Â www.aliveandwellteens.com
Each Alive & Well Program offers eight fifty minute sessions as well as student note packets, parent guides, demonstration materials, videos, prizes, incentive items and informational meetings for parents and school staff. By combining in-class instruction, website follow-up, Facebook posts targeting parents, and Instagram posts targeting teens, Alive & Well hopes to increase parent/teen discussions about vital issues.
Wendy Bailey, Alive & Well Executive Director and grant writer, expressed her appreciation to the ACCF for this support. Alive & Well continues educating and encouraging teens to pursue bright futures in all areas of their lives. Wendy also noted that the programs teach teens they are tremendously valuable and the choices they make now can affect them forever. It is extremely important to ask for help when needed. Cathy Stucky, ACCF vice president board member and grants committee member co-chair, noted that she is glad to be a part of an organization that supports the Alive and Well programs that encourage healthy relationships and healthy lifestyles. These topics are life-long practices that serve youth and adults well.
This ACCF grant was made possible through unrestricted funds sponsored by the Berne Ready Mix, Community Enrichment Funds.
