The Union Township Lions club will be having a dedication of the new playground equipment that was recently installed at the Union Township Park. The park is located at 4641 East 800 North Decatur, IN ½ mile east of State Road 101 on county road 800 North. The dedication is scheduled for 7:00 PM on Thursday, May 9th.
This new playground equipment is replacing a playset that was donated by the Lions club 15 years ago and was falling in disrepair and was a safety hazard. The new equipment is larger with more play activities for the local youth to enjoy while at the park.
During the dedication, the Lions Club will be recognizing donations from foundation grants. The lions’ share of the grants came from:
-The Indiana Lions Foundation matching grant for $1000.
-Lions Club International Foundation, Community Impact Grant for $5000.
-The Adams County Community Foundation, traditional grant, for $2000.
During the dedication, the Lions Club would like to recognize the foundations for their support as well as local donations.
The Lions club received “in kind” donations from local businesses.
-Stone Street Quarries donated stone to expand the play area and to bring the area to grade level and to improve drainage.
-Fleming Excavating delivered the stone.
-Buchan Sawmill donated the wood mulch (shock absorbing base for play area).
-Randy Krueckeberg delivered the wood mulch.
The Lions Club will be dedicating this new equipment in memory of Marie Fuelling, a young student who recently passed away who was a local resident. Both of Fuelling’s grandfathers were charter members of the Union Township Lions Club.
The Fuelling family is invited to the dedication and will help the Lions Club with the dedication. Staff and student from St. Peter- Immanuel Lutheran School (Marie’s school) are also planning to attend the dedication.
