The Bellmont Braves continued their domination over Fort Wayne schools with a 7-0 shutout win Tuesday against Fort Wayne Northrop.
A standout start by MaryKate Scheumann saw her allow just three hits on the night. She struck out three. She also hit a home run in the bottom of the first inning to give herself a two-run cushion.
Bellmont had eight hits themselves Tuesday and four of them came from the two corner outfielders, with Emily Bleke and Bella Ashley each collecting two hits.
Scheumann worked well with battery mate Ella Franze and the Bellmont infield to limit the damage from five walks and a couple of hit batsmen, keeping the shutout intact.
One key hit in the game came off the bat of Liz Bobay in the fourth inning. She drove in two runs to put the Braves up 4-0. Later in the inning, Emily Bleke and Makenzie Mankey added RBI hits themselves.
Bobay scored the game’s final run after moving into scoring position on a walk by Finnley Godsey. Sophia Cole grounded out to the right side and Bobay came home for the Braves’ seventh run.
The Braves are now set for a game against one of the area’s top teams, Leo, at home on Wednesday night. They also have a home game against Mississinewa on Friday night. That game will be broadcast live on WZBD.
