Southwood built a 14-0 lead and won in six innings at South Adams after a late Starfire rally was not enough to fend off the ten-run rule.
The Knights scored four runs in the top of the first off Derek Weaver, but he recovered to strike out eight batters in five innings of work.
Things fell apart for the home team in the sixth, though, as the lead ballooned from 5-0 to 14-0. Coach Buckingham looked for options in the bullpen, but three relief pitchers could each manage just one out in the sixth, with each one allowing runs to score during their stint.
South Adams did deserve credit for a rally in the bottom of the sixth, but they needed five runs to play a seventh inning and managed just three. Weaver, along with Hunter Fields and Manny Juarez each knocked in runs to trim the lead. Weaver’s double was the only extra-base hit on the night for South Adams.
The Starfires play Friday night at Parkway.
